Hi, I’m Will,
a Costa Rican photographer and videographer based in New York City.
I grew up in Costa Rica, where I spent a lot of time outdoors. As a kid, I would climb the mandarin tree in our backyard, sit on a branch, eat mandarins, and watch ants cut leaves to carry back to the ground. Years later, mountain biking became another excuse to explore. I loved the combination of completing a difficult route and getting completely immersed in my home landscape.
Following my grandmother’s advice to travel, I began exploring beyond Costa Rica, and that curiosity eventually found its way into my photography. Travel has taken me to Jamaica, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Vietnam, and France, shaping the way I think about place, history, and belonging.
I graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in Photography and Related Media. My work spans photography and video, with a particular interest in documentary storytelling and the ways images can examine culture, identity, and history.
My ongoing project, Foreign Art, Foreign Land, explores cultural objects that were removed from formerly colonized countries and are now held in museum collections outside their places of origin. The project has taken me from museums in New York to communities in Costa Rica, Peru, and Vietnam.
I’m also the other half of Borderless Colors, a photography and video studio I co-founded with my wife. Together, we have worked with clients including LVMH, the Fashion Scholarship Fund, the School of Visual Arts, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
And yes, I’m still very serious about coffee.
